What it is like
North of the moat and east of Nimman, Santitham is where a lot of people who live in Chiang Mai actually live. Food is cheap and good, the markets are for residents rather than visitors, and the rents behind that are why the cafés have not taken the whole street.
Nimman is fifteen to twenty five minutes on foot from most of it, and the Old City is a short ride. Our guide holds two places here, so the description above comes from the neighbourhood's own character rather than from notes we have written down.

Who it suits
Judgement rather than fact. This is how we answer a guest who asks us to choose between neighbourhoods.
- Longer stays where the daily cost of eating shows up in the budget.
- Guests who want Nimman nearby without paying Nimman prices.
- Anyone comfortable in a neighbourhood that is not arranged around visitors.
- Less suited to a short first visit. Little here is a sight, and the walk to the moat is not a pleasant one at midday.
We do not manage anywhere in Santitham yet.
Rather than pad this page out, we would sooner say so. We take on properties one at a time and only where we can look after them properly, so this list grows slowly and on purpose.
